DAVIDSON, N.C. – VCU netted a goal in each half to spoil Davidson's "Senior Day", 2-1, in Atlantic 10 men's soccer action Saturday night at Alumni Stadium.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats are eliminated from postseason play, falling to 3-12-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the league, while VCU moves to 6-8-3 and 4-2-1.
Greg Boehme gave the Rams a 1-0 advantage at the 13:17 mark, putting away a misplayed clearance for his first goal of the season.
Luc Fatton, the Rams' leading scorer, added the eventual game-winner late in the contest with a half volley off the right post following a centering pass from Eli Lockaby.
Davidson's lone strike came from the league's leading scorer, Maxi Pragnell, who headed in his eighth goal of the year with 7:48 to play. Reserves Jon Creel and John Dale provided the assists on the senior's 15th career strike.
The Wildcats had one last chance to equalize off a free kick, but Christian Fechter's attempt was hit right at VCU's keeper.
Prior to the contest, senior tri-captains Christian Fechter, Andrew Kenneson and Maxi Pragnell were recognized.
VCU held the edge in shots, 8-6, while the Wildcats had a 9-2 margin in corners.

Coach Spear's Postgame Comments
"We were bested by two outstanding VCU shots both in off the post. Superb strikes. Other than that we did not allow much on our defensive end and it was a quiet night in the goal for Andrew.
On that attacking side, we grew in to the game with a surging late run. We urged the guys at halftime to elevate their urgency and substitutes like Cort Coxhead, Nile Chau, John Dale and Nile Chau gave us a spark.
Maxi continued his Conference leading goal count, and it was great to have Freshmen Jon Creel and John Dale provide the assists.
We celebrate these three excellent Seniors. You can't find a critical comment from me as they always compete and they have had their most productive seasons."
