NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson sophomore Caroline Yarbrough and freshman Maddie Hunter earned Atlantic 10 women's cross country weekly honors, announced by the league office Tuesday.
Yarbrough, a Greensboro, N.C., native was named the A-10 Athlete of the Week, while Hunter was tabbed Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
"We ran a very focused and tactical race to work on our 1-5 split," said head coach Jen Straub.
Yarbrough paced the 'Cats to a team victory at the Royal Cross Country Challenge, crossing the line in third place with a time of 17:41.2. Hunter, a Charlottesville, Va., native was third for Davidson and 11th overall, traversing the 5k course at McAlpine Park in 17:55.8.
"Caroline and Maddie ran in the pack of four through two miles and I had Caroline take off with a mile to go. In doing so, she pulled her teammates through a great race. Maddie hung on in the last mile and finished very strong to run a personal best for the 'Cats," said Straub.
Hunter was previously named the Rookie of the Week for her efforts at the Charlotte Preview Meet, also at McAlpine. She was able to cut over 33 seconds off that time and set a new personal best this past weekend.
Davidson returns to the start line as a unit at the A-10 Championships in Richmond, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 22.
