DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson volleyball head coach Chris Willis has announced the addition of four incoming freshmen for 2016; Elise Edman, Emily Kane, Emma McLaughlin and Josephine Treadwell.
The class of 2020 will join a Wildcat squad, which returns 12 student-athlete from last year's team, including the 2015 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Sabrina Shepherd.
"This class is a great mix of immediate impact and potential," said Willis. "We've addressed the needs of our program for 2016 and beyond, so we're extremely excited to add these young women to our team."
Elise Edman
Libero | 5-2 | San Diego, Calif. | La Jolla Country Day School

A three-time letterwinner at La Jolla Country Day School, Edman helped her team to a state championship in 2013. The libero was named to the San Diego Union Tribune All-Academic Team in 2014 and 2015. As a senior, Edman earned a spot on the 2015 Southern California Volleyball Invitational All-Tournament team. She finished her high school career with 895 digs and 141 assists. Academically, Edman was part of the Cum Laude Society and the National Spanish Honors Society. She was the recipient of the National Spanish Exam Gold Award, the Smith College Book Award and High Honor Roll all eight semesters.
"Elise is a prototype libero who will be able to contribute right away," said Willis. "She's trained at a high level with a premier club team in San Diego and will come in with a high court-IQ. She will be a stabilizing factor to our serve receive and serve as a catalyst to spark our offense to higher efficiency."
Emily Kane
Right Side | 5-11 | Dallas, Texas | Highland Park High School

Hailing from Dallas Texas, Kane was a two-year letterwinner at Highland Park High School. Kane was named to the Texas Academic all-state team in 2015 and the UIL academic all-district team as a junior and senior. The opposite hitter earned USA Volleyball High Performance distinction in 2012 and 2014, while also being tabbed AVCA/Under Armour Phenon in 2014. In 2013, Kane was a USA Volleyball Junior Olympic medalist. Off the court, Kane is a member of the National Honor Society and the National History Honor Society. An avid volunteer, Kane has completed more than 350 community service hours throughout high school. For her commitment to service, Kane received the President's Service Award in 2013 and 2014, and the Highland Park Presidential Service award four times. Kane is the founder and Vice President of Helping Equest, an organization focused on therapeutic horseback riding. She served as a Cornerstone Athlete in 2015.
"Emily was a pleasant surprised as a late commit to our program," said Willis. "She's a setter with good size and the added benefit of being left handed. She'll make our team better in the gym as she learns our system and how to play at the college level. I look forward to seeing her develop as a student-athlete here at Davidson."
Emma McLaughlin
Outside Hitter | 6-0 | Montclair, Va. | Forest Park High School

A product of Montclair, Va., McLaughlin comes to Davidson after earning three varsity letters at Forest Park high school. The outside hitter was named first team all-conference, first team all-region and 6A first team all-state in 2013 and 2014. McLaughlin was named the team's offensive MVP as a sophomore and junior. Sidelined most of her senior season due to injury, McLaughlin still led the team in hitting percentage and finished third on the squad with 123 kills to earn second team all-conference honors. McLaughlin was named to the all-tournament team at the Virginia Showcase three times and earned AVCA Phenom in 2013 and 2014. Academically, McLaughlin was a four-year academic letter recipient at Forest Park. She was a member of the honor court, serving as the chief justice of the honor court in her junior and senior year. McLaughlin was also a member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. McLaughlin also earned AP Scholar with Distinction.
"Emma is an incredibly motivated and competitive athlete who will exceed expectations in our program," said Willis. "She has continued to improve over the last few years and is very coachable. Her size, athleticism, and determination will help her develop into a dynamic pin hitter."
Josie Treadwell
Outside Hitter | 5-10 | Los Angeles, Calif. | Harvard-Westlake School

A three-time letterwinner at Harvard-Westlake School, Treadwell served as the captain of the volleyball team in her senior year. The outside hitter finished her final year with 242 kills, 44 aces and 140 digs to earn Mission League first team and Los Angeles Daily News second team all-area in 2015. As a junior, Treadwell earned Mission League honorable mention. Treadwell earned a gold medal at the 2013 USA Volleyball Junior Beach Tour. Academically, Treadwell was the recipient of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in 2014 and the Gold Key Award for photography in 2015.
"Josie is one of the most well rounded volleyball players we've recruited at Davidson," said Willis. "She has an extensive beach volleyball background that will pay big dividends for us in serve receive and defense. Offensively, she is a low-error attacker that can hit out of all zones of the net. I can't wait to see her find her place on the court this fall."
