
Sears, Yarbrough Score Victories at UNCG Spartan Challenge

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –Davidson women's track and field scored a pair of victories from sophomore Sarah Sears and freshman Caroline Yarbrough at the UNCG Spartan Team Challenge held at the JDL Fast Track, Sunday.
Sarah Sears blazed to victory in the one mile. The sophomore clocked a season best time of 5:12.03.
Competing for the first time in 2016, Yarbrough pulled away to claim the 3,000-meter run by more than 10 seconds in a program best 9:53.19. The first-year runner set a personal-best, and her time is currently the fastest among Atlantic 10 runners in the event.
Freshman Tori Long led the sprinters with a Davidson-record time of 59.58 in the 400 meters. The time was good for third overall.
Led by Sears first-place finish, Davidson also went 4-5-6. Allison Cheeseman finished the race in 5:22.58, Hannah Moerk crossed in 5:31.91 and Rachel McKay clocked a 5:35.21.
The Wildcats went on to earn three additional top-10 finishes in the length 3,000-meter. Hayden Bates was the next to cross the line with a time of 10:46.86, good for seventh place. Caroline Turner (10:56.88) and Abby Fry (10:59.99) finished in ninth and 10th place, respectively.
In the 800-meter, Hannah Rieden earned a second place finish with a time of 2:17.7.6. Brigid Behrens wasn't far behind, taking fourth place after clocking a 2:19.64. Ashlyn Gruber was the next 'Cat to cross the finish line with a time of 2:20.22 to rank sixth overall.
Davidson's 4x400 relay team of Behrens, Gruber, Long and Rieden placed sixth overall, crossing the stripe in 4:02.77. In the throws, Daisy Borders took seventh in the shot put with a throw of 33-5.25 (10.19 meters). Megan Comstock cleared 10-00.00 (3.05 meters) in the pole vault to earn seventh place.
Davidson track and field travels to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the annual Camel City Invitational Jan. 29-30.
