DAVIDSON, N.C. – Senior Chris Woods of the Davidson football team was named the defensive MVP of the 2015 CDFL FCS Senior Scout Bowl on Dec. 19 at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Woods finished the contest with 3 sacks, 4.0 tackles for a loss and a forced fumble to earn the honor.
"To go back out one more time for the All-Star game," commented Woods. "I really felt like I was representing the entire team of Davidson. With a lot of people out there supporting me, I wanted to represent the team well and I feel like I kind of put Davidson on the map because a lot of teams from around the nation didn't know Davidson as much but after leaving the game I feel like I kind of put a place mark on where Davidson is and what we stand for."
Just over 100 players were selected and divided between North and South rosters, including nine other PFL foes.
Woods joined San Diego offensive linemen Pono Keni and Jeff Starr and Butler's quarterback Matt Shiltz on the North squad, while the South squad featured offensive lineman Logan Williamson, running back Matt Passeggiata, defensive lineman Maroa White and defensive back DJ Howard of Jacksonville and Morehead State's wide receiver Robert Harden.
The Burlington, N.C., native concluded his senior campaign with being ranked second on the squad with 57 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss and 3.0 sacks, three breakups and one fumble recovery to earn All-Pioneer Football League honors.
