
Rooney Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Mason Rooney of the Davidson volleyball team has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Rooney was on point all weekend as Davidson posted a 3-0 record at the Wildcat Classic and moved to 3-3 overall.The Atlanta, Ga., native averaged 2.73 kills per set, 4.73 assists per set and 1.36 digs per set, while hitting an incredible .569 across 11 sets.
Rooney first took to the court Friday against Hampton, and helped guide Davidson to a .253 hitting percentage while dishing out 10 assists. Rooney added seven kills, two aces and a .636 hitting percentage against the Pirates.
On Saturday, Rooney posted consecutive double-doubles as the Wildcats downed Presbyterian and ECU. Against Presbyterian, the rookie recorded 11 kills and 14 assists and a season-high .786 hitting percentage to go along with four digs. In the final game of the weekend, Rooney led the team with 12 kills and a .423 hitting percentage. She dished out 27 assists and nine digs, one shy of a triple-double versus ECU.
This is the first weekly award Rooney has picked up this season from the Atlantic 10.
Davidson returns to the court Sept. 8 with a trip to Elon at 8 p.m.
