Davidson Hosts Wildcat Classic Friday & Saturday

DAVIDSON, N.C. – After opening the 2015 season at the Charlotte Invitational, Davidson returns to the home to Belk Arena to host East Carolina, Hampton and Presbyterian in the Wildcat Classic. Davidson will first take to the court Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. versus Hampton before taking on Presbyterian and East Carolina on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
90s Night
Davidson Athletics will host 90s Night Friday for the Wildcats first game against Hampton. Domino's Pizza will be available for the first 125 students, while the first 100 students will receive a Davidson Volleyball fanny pack, Domino's Pizza will be available for the first 125 students at the door, while the first 300 students will get a Coca-Cola coozie. Fans that wear your best 90s outfit for a chance to win a free semester of Netflix. Come out and join us for some great 90s themed music and a Macarena Dance contest.
Last Time Out
Davidson, which returns 13 student-athletes to the court, will look to pick up its first win of the 2015 season. The Wildcats fell to Charlotte (3-0), Asheville (3-1) and USC Upstate (3-0) at the Charlotte Invitational at Halton Arena Aug. 28-29. Junior Emily Franklin was named to the all-tournamnet team at the conclusion of the two-day event.
Wildcat Classic
Davidson boasts a 29-27 record over the 18-year history of the tournament. The senior class owns a 4-5 overall record at this tournament. Last season, Hannah Rau represented the Wildcats on the all-tournament team.
Protecting the Net
Davidson dominated the net registered 26 total blocks in three games at the Charlotte Invitational, while limiting their opponents to just 18 stops. The Wildcats currently rank first in the Atlantic 10 in blocks per set (2.60). Sophomore Mary Harriet Moore and Junior Emily Franklin lead the team with 13 and 12 total blocks. Moore is averaging 1.30 blocks per set, which is good for second in the A-10, while Franklin is contributing 1.20 blocks per set to rank fifth.
Aces
Senior Morgan Shannon is second in the A-10 after serving up six aces last weekend. Shannon is averaging 0.60 service aces pet set. Davidson is averaging 1.60 service aces per set, which is good for third most in the conference.
Can You Dig It?
Davidson is averaging 15.80 digs per set, to rank fourth in the A-10. Morgan Shannon earned the role for the Wildcats at libero and has not disappointed, averaging a team-high 4.60 digs per set in 10 sets played. Shannon sits second among A-10 leaders.
All-Time Against the Field
Davidson and Hampton will meet for the first time in program history.
The Wildcats and Pirates will meet for the 13th time in program history with Davidson holding a slim 7-5 advantage over East Carolina. The two teams met will meet for the first time since 1998, where the Wildcats posted a 3-0 win.
Davidson trails Presbyterian 2 games 2-0 in the series history. The two programs met last season at the Wake Forest Invitational. The Blue Hose took the match 3-1.
