Day One Story
DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson picked up four more singles wins on the final day of its own invitational, held in the indoor courts of Knobloch Tennis Center. Rain forced play to move inside for the weekend.
Sophomore David Hager finished perfect on the weekend in singles action as he scored a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory at No. 5 against J.W. Kleynhans of Appalachain State.
Also picking up singles wins Sunday was fellow sophomores Shamael Chaudhry and Jack Riazzi along with senior Alex Howard. Chaudhry, who fell in a close three set match Saturday, took a 7-6, 6-3 decision at No. 4 over Zach Bost. Riazzi earned his first singles win of the Fall, coming back from a set down to take a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.
Howard got in the win column after he also came back from a set down to pick up a 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 win at No. 8.
Another two Wildcats picked up singles wins against the Charlotte 49ers. At No. 7, Ricky Saad defeated his 49er opponent in a three-set match, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Eli Abernethy scored a nice 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 8 over Josh Cook.
In doubles, the pair of Artem Khrapko and Chaudhry were the lone Wildcat team to score a win Sunday. The duo, playing at the No. 2 position, rolled to a 6-1 victory over Bost and Trey Morris.
Davidson continues its busy Fall season with a trip to Tulsa, Okla., to take part in the ITA All-American Championship held on the campus of Tulsa. The event takes place Oct. 3-4.
