NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Competing against a number of regionally ranked opponents, the Davidson women's cross team turned in an 11th place finish at the Commodore Classic, Saturday morning.
"We ran a very strong race in a highly competitive field," said Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Jen Straub. "Caroline and Allison continue to lead the charge while Ponthier and Sears provided great depth. We need our 5-7 runners to step up a bit but we are moving in the right direction!"
Davidson's top performance of the day came from freshman Caroline Yarbrough. The Greensboro, N.C., native covered the 5K course in 17:52.9 to take 40th out of 210 runners.
The Wildcats didn't wait long for sophomore Allison Cheeseman to cross the line. The Nashville, Tenn., product posted a time of 18:16.3.
A pair of sophomores were the next Wildcats to cross the line. Sierra Ponthier and Sarah Sears captured 92nd and 97th with times just three seconds apart, led by Pontheir at 18:32.2. Junior Hayden Bates rounded out the Davidson scoring contingent with a time of 19:00.8.
The Wildcats will make a short trip down the road to compete at the Charlotte Invitational at McAlpine Park, Sept. 25.
