NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Senior Daniel Samet placed 28th at the Commodore Classic, as the Davidson men's cross country team displayed an impressive showing on the 8K course.
In a field that featured one nationally ranked team and six teams regionally ranked, the Wildcats placed 11th out of 20 teams with an average time of 26.11.
Davidson's top performance of the day came from Samet, who covered the course in 25:34.9 to place in the top-30. Sophomore Will Brewster was the next Wildcat to cross the line as the sophomore posted a time of 25:52.9 to take 42nd overall. Coming in right behind him in 57th place was sophomore Ian Robertson, who registered a time of 26:11.1.
Walker Mogen and Dylan Carmack completed the Davidson top five. Mogen captured 74th with a time of 26:29.9, while Carmack took 96th after crossing in 26:46.2.
Prior to the race, Ryan Phillips sprained his ankle and did not compete.
"Today was a bit of a mixed bag and certainly not the result we wanted, but we have some good takeaways," said head coach Renny Waldron. "We had two guys-- Ian Robertson and Dylan Carmack- run great in their first 8k cross country races... It's hard to prepare for situations like what happened with Ryan, but fortunately the chances of something like that happening again are very slim and probably won't happen again. The good news is that Ryan will be back soon and it wasn't a major injury. We look forward to putting a healthy team on the line in two weeks at Louisville."
