PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS
DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson baseball program began fall practices on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field. The team welcomed a bevy of newcomers who look to join forces with a group of returners who advanced the 2015 Atlantic 10 Semifinals in their first year in the conference.
The Wildcats have participated in conditioning drills and individual workouts, but Wednesday brought a new aspect to their workload, as they practiced as a full team for the first time.
Highlighting the fall season will be an exhibition game against a Canadian National Team, the Ontario Blue Jays, on Friday, Oct. 16 at Wilson Field at 6 p.m. More information on the contest will be released at a later date.
Davidson's fall roster is a mixture of talented returning players and quality incoming freshmen. Twenty-four players who spent time with the Wildcats last year are returning to the diamond, and they welcomed 14 new faces to the program.
Head coach Dick Cooke enters his 26th season with the 'Cats and will look to lead the program to another impressive campaign.
Davidson finished the 2015 season with the second most wins in a season with an overall record of 28-22, qualifying for its first A-10 Tournament with a No. 4 seed. The Wildcats upset No. 1 Saint Louis, 10-2, and rallied for a 2-1 victory over No. 6 George Washington, before falling in the semifinals to No. 2 Rhode Island, 4-3.
In the past two seasons, the Wildcats have put together their best two-year stretch in program history as they have compiled 57 victories.
Atlantic 10 All-Conference performers Lee Miller (First Team), Sam Foy (Second Team) and Alec Acosta (All-Rookie) all return for the Wildcats this season.
