ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Five first-half goals, including two from senior Anna Davis, led the Davidson field hockey team to an 8-1 win against Vermont Saturday afternoon at Ocker Field at the University of Michigan.
Lucy Pidcock, Melissa Funsten, Becca Jones, Katherine English Paige Albert and Emily Morgan also scored in the Wildcat's win.
Pidcock opened the scoring less than three minutes in, before Davidson (2-2) quickly added four more goals to close out the opening frame. Davidson owned a 5-4 advantage in shots in the first 35 minutes, with corners at 4-1, in favor of Vermont, but the Wildcat's shots proved devastatingly effective.
After Pidcock's goal made it 1-0, Davis scored her first of the year 13 minutes later. Becca Jones made it 3-0 at 25:09 before Melissa Funsten and Davis pushed the score to 5-0 to close out the half.
Paige Albert registered her first goal of the season at the 44:55 mark, before Emily Morgan recorded her first career goal to cap the scoring.
Molly Higgins got the Catamounts on the board at 59:05 when she tipped in a shot from Lauren Tucker. Two minutes later, Emily Morgan recorded her first career goal
Emily Leytham, Connie Cape and rookie Bean Rodriguez split time in between the pipes to secure the win.
Davidson's eight goals is the highest scoring game for the Wildcats since an 8-3 win over Appalachian State in 2011.
The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow at Ocker Field to take on No. 16 Michigan at noon.
