DAVIDSON, N.C. – Looking for its second win of the season, the Davidson field hockey team takes to the road for a pair of contests at the University of Michigan. The Wildcats will first face Vermont at 4 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a 2 p.m. showdown with No. 16-Ranked Wolverines on Sunday.

Last Time Out
Davidson dropped a hard-fought midweek contest to Missouri State, Sept. 3 at Belk Turf Field. After a scoreless first half, Missouri State capitalized on its opportunities, scoring two goals at the 52:35 mark and the 56:43 mark. The Wildcats outshoot the Bears, 11-6, and gained more penalty corners, 6-4, but could not find the back of the next. Senior goaltender Emily Leytham picked up three saves in just over a half of action, while Connie Cape defended the cage in the second, but saw no shots.

Funsten Time
Senior Melissa Funsten found the back of the net in the Wildcat's opening weekend. The Raleigh, N.C., native recorded her first goal of the season and Davidson's first point of the 2015 campaign in a 1-0 victory at Georgetown. At Lehigh, Funsten capitalized on a penalty corner in the second half to put the Wildcats on the board.

Defending the Cage
Emily Leytham has played 192:06 minutes in goal this season for the Wildcats. The senior has made 11 saves, including four stops in the shutout victory at Georgetown. Leytham owns a .688 save percentage. Connie Cape has seen 17:54 minutes in between the pipes for the Wildcats. Â

Fresh Faces
Davidson's roster features six freshmen, representing four states (North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia) Courtney Byler is an addition at defense, Kristin Kisa, Emily Morgan, Leigha Nortier and Kate Singletary will transition between forward and midfield, while Bean Rodriguez comes aboard a goalkeeper.

Scouting Vermont
Vermont will carry a 1-2 record into the weekend after most recently falling to Rider 6-1, Sept. 6 and opening the season with a 4-2 loss at Hofstra and a 2-0 win over Sacred Heart.

Lauren Tucker leads the offensive charge for the Catamounts, scoring three goals and dishing out an assist for seven points. Molly Higgins has found the back of the net twice and registered a helper, while Tess O'Brien, Anne-Marie Farmer and Aria Robinson have each handed out an assists. Lena Benwood has played 204:17 in the cage for Vermont, making 21 saves, while giving up 10 goals. Her goals-against average stands at 3.43.

All-Time Against the Catamounts
Davidson and Vermont will meet four the fourth time in program history with the Caramounts holding a slim 2-1 advantage over the Wildcats. Last season, Vermont found the back of the net with 13 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Molly Higgins lifted the Catamounts to a 2-1 victory, scoring just over a minute into overtime.

Scouting No. 16 Michigan
Michigan enters the weekend sporting a 4-4 record through the first two weeks of competition. The Wolverines opened 2015 with losses to then-No. 2 North Carolina and then-No. 11 Wake Forest at Ocker Field, before rattling off two straight shutout wins at Providence and Fairfield.

Junior Courtney Enge (2G) and senior Lauren Thomas (1G, 2A) each on four points to pace the Michigan offense. Senior Shannon Scavelli is third on the team with three points (1G, 1A), while freshmen Emma Way (1G) and Leah Cardarelli (1G) each have two points. In net, Sam Swenson has played 270:19 minutes in goal for Michigan and sports 2-2 record with a 1.29 goals-against average and a .737 save percentage.

Davidson and Michigan will meet for the first time in program history.
