DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Junior Maxi Pragnell set up both goals, including Shane Macnamara's 75th minute game-winner as Davidson rallied past in-state foe Campbell, 2-1, in non-conference men's soccer action Friday evening at Alumni Stadium.
Macnamara's difference maker came at the 74:04 mark off a beautiful back heel flick from Pragnell, who made a run into the left side of the box following a Campbell turnover.
With the win, the Wildcats are unbeaten in their last 17 regular-season openers', including an 11-0-4 mark under the direction of head coach Matt Spear '93, who is in his 15th season at the helm. Davidson, which has not dropped its first game of the season since 1998, is 34-20-6 all-time in openers.
In addition, the Wildcats extended their home-unbeaten streak to 11 straight dating back to the 2013 season.
In the 42nd minute, Bradley Farias put the Camels in front 1-0 when the 2014 Big South Freshman of the Year tracked down his initial one v. one attempt and found the open net. Davidson keeper Matt Pacifici made a diving save on Farias' first shot, but was unable to corral the loose ball.
Pacifici, who was an all-conference performer a year ago, led both keepers with five saves, while both teams finished with 10 shots each.
Jess Smith, who had the best scoring chance for the 'Cats in the opening period, provided an equalizer 3:13 into the second half. The junior's first-career goal beat Matthew Mozynski far post off a slotted pass from Pragnell.
Davidson will enjoy a week break before returning to the field for a 7 p.m. contest next Friday against former SoCon rival Wofford on 1992 Team Field.
