DAVIDSON, N.C. – Brian Doyle has joined the Davidson cross country and track and field staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jen Straub recently announced.
"It is with great pleasure that we add Brian to our cross country and track & field staff," said Straub. "He will bring his experience as a college athlete/recruiter to our program and will add a great dimension to our staff. As a recruiting coordinator, Brian will use his knowledge and love of our sport to attract the top student-athletes to Davidson."
"I was lucky enough to coach Brian when he was an undergraduate at Northeastern, and his work ethic and enthusiasm for the sport was unparalleled, and an example for all," said head coach Renny Waldron. "I'm looking forward to seeing Brian channel those same qualities that made him a great athlete into his coaching."
Doyle, a 2015 graduate of Providence College, comes to Davidson after an impressive collegiate running career at both Providence and Northeastern.
"I'm extremely proud and excited to join the coaching staff here at Davidson," said Doyle. "Coach Straub's enthusiasm and love for the sport is contagious, and I am looking forward to working under her tutelage. Having been an athlete under the direction of Coach Waldron, I know that he is a loyal and supportive coach. I am thankful to both of them for welcoming me to the program as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator."
Most recently, Doyle served as a volunteer coach at Bishop Hendricken High School where he helped to organize practices and mentor high school athletes.
The Swansea, Massachusetts, native started out at Northeastern in 2010. An All-Colonial Athletic Conference selection in 2011, Doyle led his team to the highest conference finish in program history and the highest regional finish in 17 years. Doyle served as captain of the cross country team and track & field team.
At Providence, Doyle continued to experience success. In his two seasons of cross country, he helped the Friars to two top-20 finishes at the NCAA championships. In his final season, he raced to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals with a time of 30:33.2 to earn All-Regional honors. He went on to place 149th at the NCAA Championship. On the track, Doyle placed sixth in the 5,000-meter and eighth in the 3,000-meter at the 2014-15 BIG EAST Championships.
A two-time All-Big East honoree, Doyle served as captain of the cross country team and track & field team. He graduated with a bachelor of arts in biology in 2015.
