Davidson Picked Eighth in Preseason Poll

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— The Davidson volleyball team has been selected to finish eighth in the league's annual preseason poll, which was announced Monday.
Davidson, which returns 12 student-athletes from last season, also welcomes five newcomers.
The Wildcats return offensive threats Hannah Rau and Michelle McNeight. Rau registered 2.62 kills per set, while McNeight turned in 1.46 kills per set. Defensively, Davidson will rely on the experience of Morgan Shannon, Emily Franklin and Mary Harriet Moore. Shannon who started at libero in 2014, finished the year with 3.78 digs per set. Franklin and Moore protected the net, recording 1.01 and 0.87 blocks per set, respectively.
Davidson will look to improve on their inaugural season in the A-10 with a competitive preseason slate. Davidson will open the 2015 campaign this weekend at the Charlotte Invitational. Conference play begins Sept. 25.
Dayton was selected to repeat at the conference champions with eight first-place votes, while George Washington and Saint Louis were selected two and three, respectively. Rhode Island, VCU, Duquesne and George Mason followed while Davidson sits ahead of Fordham and La Salle.
