Men’s Soccer Picked Fifth; Hill Named All-Rookie

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson has been picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 standings, while freshman Jordan Hill has been selected to the Preseason All-Rookie Team, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Coming off a 10-2-6 campaign, which included a 4-2-2 mark in their first A-10 season, the Wildcats received 120 points, including one first-place vote.
"We are excited to enter year two in the A-10," said head coach Matt Spear. "It's a very competitive conference with the most teams in NCAA Division I soccer. Rhode Island going from winless two years ago then winning the regular season plus #6 seed Fordham last year's Tournament underlines the parity."
Ranked No. 22 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Preseason Poll, Saint Louis has been tabbed the league favorite ahead of Rhode Island and George Mason.
VCU was predicted to finished fourth, followed by the Wildcats and Dayton. Reigning tournament champion, Fordham, was voted to finish seventh, while Duquesne, La Salle and George Washington finished out the top 10. Saint Joseph's, Massachusetts and St. Bonaventure round out the poll.
Like Matt Reinikka a year ago, Hill was voted to the league's all-rookie team. Hill is a defender from Chesapeake, Va., and product of Great Bridge High School.
"We are excited for Jordan's honor. He's arrived fit, determined and strong. He played a quality half in the preseason match at UNC, scoring a goal and assisting another as a center back," Spear commented.
The top-eight teams in the regular season standings will compete in the 2015 Atlantic 10 Men's Soccer Championship, which will be held Nov. 12-15 at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
Davidson will kick-off its 2015 season with a 7 p.m. contest Friday evening against in-state foe Campbell at Alumni Stadium.
