EUGENE, Ore. – Erin Osment concluded her impressive senior campaign with a 14th-place finish in the 10,000-meter event, earning second-team All-America status, at the NCAA Track & Field Championship Thursday night at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
In front of 10,015 fans, Osment clocked a 34:14.25 to finish 14th out of 24 runners in the event. Osment's time was not only a career-best, but also set a new Davidson record. The Atlanta, Ga., native has now set and broke her program record in the event five times this year.
"This has been an amazing experience and it was an incredible race" said Osment. "I felt strong in the first part of the race and wanted to compete as hard as I could. I am so excited with the results, and so happy to have had the chance to wear the Davidson uniform on track's biggest stage!"
Osment becomes the program's second All-American with her 14th-place finish. In 2007, Kristen Meister finished 11th in the high jump to earn All-America honors.
"I am so proud of Erin!" said Director of Track and Field Jen Straub. "The way she competed at this level was extremely inspiring. She put herself in a position to be successful, and she executed our race plan to a tee. Erin is one of the grittiest competitors I have ever had the privilege of coaching.
Osment, who became just the third Davidson woman to qualify for the NCAA track championships, concludes a stellar four-year career with a pair of Atlantic 10 titles and her named etched throughout the Davidson record book.
"Erin's presence on and off the track has contributed to our program's continued success," added Straub. "She truly represents a Davidson student-athlete and she will be missed."
