Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va. – The No. 4-seeded Davidson baseball team downed the top-seeded Saint Louis Billikens, 10-2, in game eight of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Tournament Friday at Barcroft Park for the Wildcats' first-ever win in the tournament.

The win advances Davidson (27-21) to game 10 in the bracket and will take on No. 6 George Washington at 8:30 p.m. tonight.

The Wildcats out hit Saint Louis (35-21), 17-11, while both teams committed an error. Designated hitter Ryan Lowe led Davidson with three hits and two runs scored in six at bats. Six other Wildcats picked up multiple hit performances, including center fielder Andrew Pope with three RBI.

Davidson collected a lead off hit in six of the nine innings and its 17 hits ties the most allowed by Saint Louis this season.

The 'Cats got off to a strong start, picking up five runs in the second. Leading off with shortstop Alec Acosta, Davidson notched three-straight singles to load the bases before Pope drew the first walk of the day.

A SLU error and sacrifice fly from second baseman Sam Foy set up a two-RBI double for right fielder Lee Miller as the Wildcats completed the second inning with a 5-0 lead.

After the Billikens scored off a Davidson error, Acosta led off for the second-straight inning and this time picked up a double to left center. The 2015 All-Rookie honoree eventually scored off another sacrifice fly to make it a 6-1 ball game in the third.

The Wildcats got a run in the next two innings, including two in the sixth to secure the game.

On the mound, LHP Rob Bain pitched the first seven innings for Davidson, holding the Billikens to two runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts. The senior threw 97 pitches with 64 strikes for his sixth win of the season.

Saint Louis threw four Billikens, including LHP Josh Moore who pitched the first 1.1 innings and allowed five runs – four earned – off five hits for the loss.

The Wildcats will return to the field tonight to face No. 6-seed George Washington at 8:30 p.m. at Barcroft Park.
