CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a battle of cross-county rivals, Charlotte scored a 6-1 win over the Wildcats Tuesday afternoon in men's tennis at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
Davidson fell to 12-9 on the season as it was playing its second-to-last regular season match. The 49ers continued their impressive season by moving to 17-2.
Netting the Wildcats' lone point was freshman Artem Khrapko at No. 2 singles. He scored a 6-3, 6-4 win to run his season record to a team-best 14-6, including 12-6 at the No. 2 slot.
Charlotte opened the match with 8-1 and 8-5 victories at No. 2 and 3 doubles to grab the early 1-0 lead.
Coming close to scoring the Wildcats another two team points was David Hager and Ricky Saad. Hager had his four-match win streak come to an end after he fell in three sets. He opened with a 6-1 win, but then dropped 6-4 and 6-2 decisions in the next two sets.
Saad played a super tie-breaker to finish out his singles match at No. 4, falling 10-6. The sophomore win a 7-4 first-set tie-breaker, but then dropped a 6-1 decision in the next set to force the super tie-breaker in the third set.
Davidson closes out the regular season with a 1 p.m. match this weekend at Appalachian State Saturday, April 11.
