Golf Leads A-10 Championship; Papciak Shoots Personal Best

HARMONY, Fla. – Led by a personal-best three-under 69 from freshman Spencer Papciak, Davidson holds the top spot on the team leaderboard after day one of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship.
The three-day/54-hole event is being played on the Par 72, 7,106-yard Harmony Golf Preserve layout.
Competing in its first A-10 Tournament, Davidson was even par through nine holes before posting four-under on the back nine to shoot its first sub-par (284/-4) round of the spring. The Wildcats will enter Saturday's second round with a two-stroke advantage over VCU (286/-2) and four shots clear of St. Bonaventure (288/E).
Highlighted by a stretch of four holes (13-16) in five-under par, including an eagle on the Par 4 13th, Papciak is currently tied for fourth, three back of individual leaders Jack Persons (George Washington) and Adam Ball (VCU).
Davidson's Todd Eckstein also carded a sub-par round with a one-under 71 and sits in a tie for 10th place. After making the turn in one-over 37, the senior played his inward nine in two-under 34.
Both David Sargent (T-12th) and Ralph Blasey (T-12th) fired even-par 72s, while sophomore Andy Simmons (T-35th) suffered a double bogey on the last to shoot 75.
Tomorrow's second round will begin at 7:30 a.m. The Wildcats will be paired with VCU and The Bonnies starting at 9:45 a.m.
