2015 Davidson Men's Soccer Schedule
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Six NCAA Tournament participants from a year ago, including a West Coast trip to meet Stanford and Cal, plus 10 home dates, highlight the 2015 Davidson men's soccer schedule.
"The schedule is full of opportunities and each match will be up for grabs," commented head coach Matt Spear, who is entering his 15th season at the helm of his alma mater. "Our focus will be one day and one game at a time in a 'Win the Moment' and 'All In' emphasis."
In preparation for the regular season slate, Davidson will play a pair of exhibition matches – traveling to North Carolina (Aug. 19) before hosting Long Island University (Aug. 25).
"We are excited to start with North Carolina, as that's a motivating factor for this summer's preparation."
The Wildcats will kick-off the regular season with a three-game homestand beginning with Campbell on Aug. 28 at Alumni Stadium, where they're unbeaten in 10 straight dating back to 2013.
For the first time in 26 years, Davidson and Wofford will square off as non-conference opponents when the former SoCon foes meet at 1992 Team Field on Sept. 4. Three days later the Wildcats will host N.C. State (Sept. 7) before traveling to another former league rival, Elon, Sept. 12.
Following a Sept. 15 home contest against High Point, Davidson will head west to face historically ranked Cal (Sept. 18) and Stanford (Sept. 20), which have combined to make 30 NCAA Tournament appearances.
USC Upstate will visit Davidson on Sept. 25 for the first of four straight at home for the Wildcats. During the span, Davidson will also host Duke, which they knocked off a year ago in Durham, prior to opening Atlantic 10 play on Oct. 3.
"Facing four ACC squads underlines our ambition to play the best in this strong region," said Spear. "The home match vs. Duke will be an especially ripe bite of the apple."
In addition to concluding its longest homestand of the season with Fordham on Oct. 7, Davidson will continue its stretch of six consecutive conference games at VCU (Oct. 10).
"The A-10 is where we must most rise to the occasion to go for a conference crown and earn a seed to the Tournament," Spear said.
Despite their contest being canceled due to rain a year ago, Davidson and Wake Forest are scheduled to meet for the 26th straight year when they square off on Oct. 27 in Winston Salem.
A "Senior Day" matchup with George Mason on Halloween and a trip to Duquesne a week later will close out the regular season for the Wildcats, who were the only team in the nation to finish with just two losses in 2014.
The 2015 Atlantic 10 Tournament hosted by George Mason will be played Nov. 12, 13 and 15 in Fairfax, Va.
