Osment Sets New Mark as 'Cats Complete Weekend Competition

Virginia Cup Results | Charlotte Invitational Results
CHARLOTTEVILL, Va./CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Davidson women's track team registered strong performances at the Virginia Cup hosted by the University of Virginia and at the Charlotte Invitational hosted by UNC Charlotte.
At the Virginia Cup, the Davidson track team was led by senior Erin Osment in record breaking fashion. The senior raced to an 18th place finish against a competitive field in the 5,000 meter run. Osment posted a new school mark of 16:50.19.
Junior Olivia Menden posted a season-best 4:35.94 in the 1,500-meter run among a competitive field. Sophomore Hannah Rieden and Brigid Behrens posted season-fast marks in the 800 meter. Rieden crossed the line in 2:13.52, Behrens finished in 2:14.54.
At the Charlotte Invitational, the Wildcats experienced similar success.
Freshman Allison Cheeseman collected a first-place victory in the 3,000-meter run. She crossed in a personal-best time of 10:18.61, 16.63 seconds ahead of second placer finisher Emily Sparrow of Winthrop(10:35.24). Davidson went on to claim 3-4-5. Carolina Turner (10:39.25), Ali Cobb (10:42.34) and Laurel Sheffield (10:56.61) all claimed top-five finishes.
Sierra Ponthier placed second in the 1,500 meter run. The freshman ran a season-best 4:36.36, just four seconds out of first-place. Sarah Sears took fourth with a time of 4:40.73, while Grace Watt finished in 4:49.90 to rank seventh and Eliza Lawless (4:55.46) took 14th place.
Helen Webster competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The freshman posted a time of 12:29.80 to rank seventh.
Ashlyn Gruber placed seventh in the 800-meter run after turning in a 2:17.98. Jenna Boue posted a time of 1:01.08 in the 400-meter dash.
In the field events, Molly Marshall and Stephanie Hautamaa led the way as each cleared 11'3.75" (3.45 meters) in the pole vault event. Megan Comstock cleared 10'4'' (3.15 meters).
Davidson returns to action April 23 for the Carolina Cup.
