RICHMOND, Va.  —  Junior Hannah Early scored a team-high 23 points and Mackenzie Latt also reached double figures, but the Wildcats' season came to an end in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Tournament as it fell 74-63 to 11th-seeded La Salle Wednesday evening in the Richmond Coliseum.

La Salle (15-15) put three players in double-digits, led by Micahya Owens' 24 points. Siobhan Beslow had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Alicia Cropper finished with 11 points.

Early finished the game shooting 8-of-15 from the field, including 5-for-10 from behind the three-point line, while adding five rebounds and three assists. Latt also hit eight field goals in her 16 attempts to finish with 16 points and a team-high tying six rebounds.

Alexandra Long scored eight points, and Dakota Dukes added six points and six rebounds.

Davidson was within three points at halftime, but the Explorers put the game away by using a 12-3 run to open the first five minutes of the second half and push its three-point lead to 45-35. Owens scored nine of those points on three triples and finished the game with six treys in all.

The lead would grow to 14 (58-44) with 8:43 left, but Early did her best to keep the 'Cats close, draining a deep three-ball two minutes later to make it 64-54. The junior scored 19 second-half points and hit all five of her three-pointers in the period.

La Salle pushed the lead back to its biggest margin of the game at 74-57 before Davidson closed the game scoring the final six points, five by Early, for the final score.

La Salle opened the game fast, jumping out to a 15-7 lead on 6-of-10 shooting with half of their shots from behind the arc. It later pushed the advantage to 10 at 23-13 on a fast-break layup, forcing Davidson to burn its second timeout of the half.

The Wildcats (5-25) though did not back down, coming all the way back to tie things up. A Llillan McCabe three-point play made it 27-23 and a minute later, Latt scored a bucket inside that forced the Explorers to burn a timeout.

Then with 1:31 left in the half, Long swished home a triple from the left wing to tie things up at 30-all and cap off a 17-7 run. La Salle would then hit its own three-pointer in the closing seconds for a 33-30 edge at the break.

Davidson won the battle in the paint, 30-26, and shot a game-high 44.6 percent with a 7-for-17 showing from downtown. La Salle recorded 23 points off 18 offensive rebounds and had 21 points on 13 Wildcat turnovers.

It was the final career games for McCabe (six points, three boards, two assists), Mellissa Giegerich (two points, one rebound) and Shannon Eriksson.

GAME NOTES: Early finished scoring in double figures 26 times this year pushing her career total to 54 … Her 74 three-pointers on the season set a single-season record  … Latt's double-digit game was her 20th of the season … the freshman recorded 11 double-doubles on the year, fifth-most in a single season.
