Papciak and Eckstein Open with Even-Par Rounds at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – After nearly four weeks away from tournament action, the Davidson golf team returned to the course Friday at the Furman Intercollegiate where Todd Eckstein and Spencer Papciak led the way with opening-round scores of even-par 72.
The 54-hole/three-day event is being played on the Par 72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Course layout.
Eckstein, who entered with a team-best 73.42 stroke average, posted three birdies in his opening round and sits just five strokes off the individual lead, currently held by Nick Torrance (Jacksonville) and Brandon Roninson-Thompson (USC Aiken) at five-under.
As a team, the Wildcats posted a 300 and will enter tomorrow's second round just 10 shots out of the Top-5.
Papciak (T-20th), who is competing as an individual for Davidson, turned in six birdies to equal the lowest round of his collegiate career.
Davidson's Alex Nianouris is tied for 30th out of 114 competitors after matching his best round of the season with a one-over 73. David Sargent (76/T-59th), Andy Simmons (79/T-87th) and Ralph Blasey (79/T-87th) rounded out the Wildcats' starting five.
USC Aiken (284) holds the top spot on the team leaderboard at four-under, while Jacksonville (-2) and Troy (E) are second and third, respectively.
Saturday's second round will begin at 8 a.m. off holes 1 & 10. The Wildcats will be paired with Presbyterian and Georgia State starting on the back nine at 12:50 p.m.
