Strong Showing for 'Cats at the 49ers Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In the first weekend of the outdoor season, the Davidson women's track and field team had a strong showing at the 49ers Classic.
Olivia Menden claimed victory in the 1500 meter. The junior clocked a 4:36.23 to cross the line first. Freshman Sarah Sears wasn't too far behind, posting a time of 4:45.35 to finish 12th.
Davidson showcased their depth in the 800 meter run with four top-10 finishes. Brigid Behrens led the pack with a strong fourth place finish, crossing the line in 215.81. Sarah Sears was next to finish with a time of 2:16.35, good for sixth. Grace Watts clocked a 2:17.43 and Menden finished in 2:17.65 to take ninth and 10th respectively.
Helen Webster claimed a top-15 finish in the 5,000 meter run. The rookie clocked an 18:04.75 to take 13th. Grace Falken placed 18th with a time of 18:26.73.
In the 400 meter, Ashlyn Gruber placed 17th with a time of 1:00.06, while Brigid Behrens wasn't far behind in a time of 1:00.18 to take 18th.
In the field events, Senior Molly Marshall was the top-finisher for the Wildcats in the pole vault, as she tallied a 10'8'' (3.25m) jump to finish 12th. Freshman Stephanie Hautamaa placed 14th with a performance of 10'8'' (3.25m). Anna Memoli placed 17th in the high jump. She registered a jump of 4' 10¼"(1.48 meters).
The track and field team will return to action March 28-29 at the Raleigh Relays.
