Todd and Stein Honored With A-10 Tennis Weekly Awards

DAVIDSON, N.C. — For the third straight week freshman Ava Todd of the Davidson women's tennis team was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie Performer of the Week, while fellow teammate sophomore Sarah Stein was named the A-10 Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office recently.
It's the second straight week Todd was named the top rookie, while she grabbed performer of the week honors, March 3, to start her weekly award run. The award for Stein is her first of the season and career. Overall, Davidson has won a weekly award 10 times this year.
Both Todd and Stein, who went a combined 8-0 last week in singles and doubles, helped the team go 2-0 with league wins over George Washington and Saint Joseph's at home. Davidson pushed its record to 8-4 and 3-1 in A-10 play.
Todd pushed her singles streak to a team-high 11 in a row by going 2-0 last week. She collected wins against GW (6-1, 6-0) and Saint Joseph's (7-6, 6-1) at No. 4 singles to push her record to a team-leading 11-1. The Baltimore, Md., native remained perfect at No. 4 with a 5-0 record.
Second on the team with an 8-4 overall record, Stein netted a pair of wins at No. 3 singles. She opened with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Colonials and then the following day earned a 6-4, 6-2 decision over the Hawks.
The duo also teamed up together at No. 3 doubles to pick up 8-5 and 8-1 wins in helping Davidson earn the doubles point in both matches. The two wins ran their overall record to 7-5 on the season and 3-1 in league matches.
Davidson begins a six-match road trip by taking on Massachusetts in Charleston, S.C., March 20, at 2 p.m.
