DAVIDSON, N.C. — For the second time this year, the Davidson men's tennis team swept the Atlantic 10 weekly awards announced by the league office, with freshman Artem Khrapko earning performer of the week and fellow classmate David Hager taking home rookie performer of the week.
It was Khrapko's second weekly honor after earning the rookie award, Feb. 24, while Hager collected his first of the season. The duo gave Davidson its fifth and sixth weekly honors overall on the season.
The freshmen helped Davidson continue its impressive run of late, as the Wildcats went 2-0 last weekend to push their win streak to 10 straight. The two victories were against league foes George Washington (4-3) and Saint Joseph (7-0) to move their A-10 record to 4-0 and 11-3 overall.
Khrapko and Hager each went 3-0 in singles and doubles vs. GW and the Hawks at home. Khrapko scored the winning point for the Wildcats in a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) victory at No. 2 singles vs. the Colonials. He then pushed his team and season-best singles win streak to 12 in a row with another three-set win (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) against Saint Joseph's the following day.
The 12 straight wins pushed Khrapko's overall record to a team-best 12-2, with a 4-0 mark in league play. The pair of three-set wins was also his fourth and fifth of the year.
A native of Edmond, Okla., Hager pushed his singles win streak to six straight, netting a 7-5, 6-4 decision against GW and then a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 decision against Saint Joe's, both at No. 5 singles. Hager also contributed an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles with teammate Khrapko.
Hager is a perfect 4-0 at No. 5 singles and 6-3 overall on the season, while he and Khrapko have a team-best record of 7-3 in doubles action.
Davidson looks to continue its winning ways at former Southern Conference opponent Wofford, March 18, at 3 p.m.
