NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Fresh off another undefeated singles week, freshman Ava Todd was tabbed the Atlantic 10 Rookie Performer of the Week for matches played from March 2-10, as announced by the league office today.
The first-year player made it two weeks in a row she has earned one of the league's weekly honors after picking up performer of the week last week. Overall, it is Davidson's eighth weekly award with four of them being rookies of the week.
Todd dominated again last week, winning both of her singles matches against Atlantic 10 foes George Mason and Richmond to push her personal win streak to nine straight. She also added a doubles victory with Sarah Stein at No. 3, an 8-5 triumph over the Patriots of George Mason to help the 'Cats earn the doubles point.
A native of Baltimore, Md., Todd helped Davidson earn the program's first-ever A-10 victory by rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 vs. the Patriots. Davidson took home a 6-1 team decision on the day. Then on Sunday, the freshman was the lone player to score for the Wildcats against the Spiders. Todd tallied her ninth straight singles win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
