MOBILE, Ala. – Todd Eckstein opened with an even-par 72 and David Sargent followed with a career-best 68 as Davidson sits just inside the Top-10 after day one of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate hosted by the University of South Alabama.
The 54-hole / two-day event is being played on the Par-72, 7,160-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings layout. Tuesday's final round will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.
Eckstein (72-74), who paced the Wildcats with a 72.81 stroke average in the fall, is tied for 14th at 146 (+2), while Sargent (79-68) is one back of his teammate in a tie for 18th.
After a disappointing opening round, Sargent bounced back with four birdies and a bogey-free afternoon to climb 32 spots in the standings.
Andy Simmons (151/T-34th), Ralph Blasey (161/69th) and Alex Nianouris (164/72nd) are also a part of Davidson's starting five. Playing as an individual for the 'Cats, Spencer Papciak (159/+17) is currently T-19th on the individual-only leaderboard.
As a team, the Wildcats (307-298 = 605) are tied for ninth with Southern Miss, eight back of Texas State and nine behind Middle Tennessee State.
The host Jaguars (299-283 = 582) hold the top spot on the team leaderboard by a single shot over SEC foes Mississippi (292-291 = 583) and Auburn (291-292 = 583).
