Day 1 Recap
KINGSTON, R.I. – Patrick Rollo claimed the individual title in the 800 meters as the Wildcats wrapped up competition at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships in fifth place. It was the first indoor track and field A-10 Championship for the Wildcats, after moving from the SoCon conference in the summer of 2014.
Rollo continued his stellar junior campaign, winning Davidson's sole individual conference crown of the weekend. The junior raced to the top of podium in the 800-meter event, posting a time of 1:53.59. Earlier this season, Rollo has broken the school record in the 800.
In the 3,000-meters, Davidson showcased its depth with three top-10 finishes. The Wildcats were led by Walker Mogen and Whitner Chase, who placed third and fourth, respectively. Mogen clocked an 8:28.88, while Chase wasn't far behind crossing in 8:31.26. Henry Falotico placed ninth in the event posting a time of 8:37.87.
Charles Rappe earned a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles finals. Rappe crossed the line in 8.63.
"The guys turned in great performances and performed well when it counted," said associate head coach Renny Waldron. "They rose to the challenge and turned in their best performance at the most important meet of the season."
The men finished their inaugural championship in fifth place with 44 team points, trailing VCU (94) in fourth, Saint Joseph's (111) in third, George Mason (199) in second and Rhode Island (203) in first place.
For the team's three seniors – Sal de Giudice, Whitner Chase and Greg Sargent – today marked the end to their Davidson indoor track careers.
"Sal, Whitner and Greg have been essential to the team's success this season," said Waldron. "They have served as great captains and we will be sad to see them go next year. They still have outdoor track left, so we have them for one more season, but they will always be part of the Davidson Track and Field family long after they graduate."
