Davidson Concludes Day One of A-10 Championships in Fourth

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Davidson men's track and field team enjoyed a successful day on the track at the first day of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championships. The Wildcats conclude the first day in fourth-place overall.
Davidson earned 17 points to rank fourth, trailing VCU by just two points. Rhode Island sits in second with 45 team points, while George Mason is in front with 57 points.
"The guys came to compete," said associate head coach Renny Waldron. "We couldn't have asked for a better first day. We're looking forward to continuing the momentum tomorrow."
In a competitive distance medley relay, Davidson raced to a fourth-place finish. George Mason posted a lightening quick time of 9:58.55 to claim the title, while a mere 0.17 seconds separated Fordham (10:03.13), La Salle (10:03.26) and Davidson (10:03.30). The Wildcat's quartet of Sal del Giudice, Jacob Hostetler, Ramsay Ritchie and Walker Mogen shattered the previous school record of 10:10.08 set in 2013, thanks in large part to Mogen's 4:09.25 mile.
Whitner Chase and Daniel Samet had a stellar performance in the 5,000-meter race. Chase crossed the line in 14:50.43 to take fourth, while Samet took seventh-place clocking a 14:52.69.
Xzavier Killings posted a jump of 6.76 metes (22-2.25) in the long jump, to tie the current school record. Killings finished in fourth.
Charles Rappe qualified for the 60-meter hurdles after posting a time of 8.58 to place seventh. Anthony Williams of George Mason took the prelims with a time of 8:05. The finals for the event are schedule for tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
In the 800-meter event, Patrick Rollo posted a 1:56.03 to advance to the finals. Rollo, who recently set the program record for the event placed sixth among a fast field. The finals are set for tomorrow at 12:40 p.m.
Jordan Marshall, competing in his first-ever Heptathlon, had a strong showing. In the 60-meter dash, Marshall posted a 7:51 to finish sixth, registered a fourth-place finish in the long jump (6.46m), tallied a throw of 9.02m in the shot put and a 1.80 meter (5'10.75) finish in the high jump.
Davidson will return to the track tomorrow for the final day of competition.
