KINGSTON, R.I. – After the first day of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, Davidson sits in eighth place, thanks to strong distance performances – including three schools records in the 5,000 meters, 1,000 meters and distance medley relay.
"We had a great first day," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jen Straub. "I'm proud of the girls tonight and I am excited to see what we can do tomorrow."
Erin Osment raced to a podium in the 5,000-meter. The senior crossed in 16:48.88 to take third. Osment shattered the previous Davidson program record by 23 seconds. Ali Cobb posted a 15th place finish with a personal best of 18:10.44.
Although Davidson didn't advance to the finals in the 1,000-meter event, Sierra Ponthier set a new school mark in the event. The freshman clocked a 3:00.5 to take 10th place overall. Ashlyn Gruber was on the heels of Ponthiers racing to an 11th place finish with a time of 3:00.93.
In the competitive distance medley relay, Davidson raced to a third-place finish, a mere 0.46 seconds out of second-place La Salle. The Wildcats foursome of Brigid Behrens, Sarah Paddon, Hannah Rieden and Sarah Sears crossed in 11:51.94, to crush the previous program record of 12:15.69.
In the pole vault, senior Molly Marshall placed in a three tie for 10th, while freshman Stephanie Hautamma finished in 14th. Marshall registered a jump of 10-10 and Hautamma record a 10-4.
