Second Half Run Leads Navy Past the Wildcats, 16-11

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Navy ran off a 9-0 run to open the second half and pull away from Davidson as the Wildcats fell 16-11 Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium in non-conference women's lacrosse action.
Coming out of halftime up 7-6, Navy (3-1) scored just over a minute into the second half and continued its scoring spurt with eight more goals to go up 16-6 until 5:10 mark in the half when Annie Brockett ended the Wildcat (1-1) drought. Three different Navy players scored two goals each during the run.
Pacing the Mids' offense was Loren Generi, who had a pair of goals in the second half, with five goals and seven points. Katie Gallagher added three goals and two assists for five points, while three other players scored two goals apiece.
The sophomore tandem of Annie Brockett (4) and Lucy Sexton (3) combined to score seven of Davidson's 11 goals. Christine Molinari had two points on a goal and assist, and four other 'Cats registered one goal each.
Holly Thomas paced the defense with a solid game, recording three groundballs, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Goalie Katy Boyle finished with three saves and three groundballs.
Navy's Annie Foky earned five saves in goal, while Ingrid Boyum played the final 14:27 of the game.
Things started out fast for the Wildcats as they scored twice in the first two and a half minutes to open the game. Emily Rademacher tallied her third goal of the season with 28:14 on the clock and Brockett followed shortly thereafter with the first of her four goals.
Nicole Pettiglio hit a free-position shot to make it 3-1 at the 22:42 mark, but Navy tied things up with a pair of goals. Davidson took its last lead on Sexton's score with close to 13 minutes left in the half for a 4-3 lead.
Generi scored twice in a three-minute span and it was 6-4 in favor of Navy. Then after back-to-back scores by Sexton and Brockett on free-position shots, Navy ended the half with a 7-6 lead on Generi's third goal with 10 ticks left.
Davidson closed the game scoring the final five goals, two by Brockett, while Arden Simone had her first of the season. Emma Sissman registered her first assist of the year on Molinari's goal with 1:17 remaining in the game.
Navy had a slight 25-21 edge in shots, while it controlled the draw control at 22-7. Both teams tied with 16 groundballs each and the Wildcats went 5-for-6 in free-position attempts.
Davidson takes to the road for the first time, playing at Old Dominion to open up the month of March.
