Wildcats To Compete at Atlantic 10 Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Davidson women's track and field team is getting ready for the 2015 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championship, held this weekend at Mackal Fieldhouse on the campus of University of Rhode Island.
"I'm excited about what we've accomplished so far," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jen Straub. "We have worked hard all season for this meet and we are ready to compete."
About Davidson
Davidson, competing in its first Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, is looking to place and score in several events across the board. Hoping to find continued success, the Wildcats are coming off a strong performance at the High Point Team Challenge Feb. 12.
In the 800-meter run, Davidson put six runners in the top-10. Hannah Rieden led the way as she broke the school record, crossing in 2:15.83. Brigid Behrens and Olivia Menden finished third and fourth, respectively. Sarah Sears (2:18.20), Ashlyn Gruber (2:19.28) and Grace Watt (2:22.13) rounded out the top finishers for the Wildcats.
The 4x400 relay team of Gruber, Watt, Rieden and Behrens also set a new school record, clocking a 4:01.62. Sophomore Hayden Bates claimed victory in the 3,000-meter event, with a personal record of 10:16.00.
Makin' Waves
Junior Sarah Paddon raced among a competitive field at the 2015 Mellow Mushroom Mile. The field comprised of 14 runners – six professional athletes and eight collegiate runners. Paddon turned in a 4:55.82 mile to set a new program record to place 12th. The Laguna Beach, Calif., native ranks first among the conference, three seconds ahead of VCU's Emily Dyke.
In the Rankings
Davidson is ranked among the conference's top-15 in several events and will look to place and score in several of those events this weekend.
Sophomore Hannah Rieden is sixth in the conference with a time of 2:14.29 in the 800-meter event, while Brigid Behrens (2:14.87) and Olivia Menden (2:15.01) are eighth and ninth respectively.
In the one-mile, Sarah Paddon leads the pack with the fastest time in the A-10 at 4:52.94. Menden (5:01.66), Sarah Sears (5:02.28) and Hannah Moerk (5:03.99) sit 10th, 12th and 14th overall.
Senior Erin Osment sits among the conference elite in both the 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter run. Osment ranks fifth in the 3,000 (9:53.30) and fourth in the 5,000 (17:14.75). Paddon also ranks eighth in the 3,000 with a time of 9:55.02. The Wildcats 4x400 relay team ranks ninth in the conference with a time of 3:57.87.
Freshman Stephanie Hautamma, who broke the program record in the pole vault at the UNC Open earlier this season, is ranked ninth in the conference with a jump of 3.40m (11'1.75").
Rewriting the books
