Davidson Nets 6-1 Road Win at Sacred Heart

NEW HAVEN, Conn.  — Freshman No. 1 singles player Shamael Chaudhry won his fourth singles match in a row and Davidson began its three-game road swing over the weekend with an easy 6-1 victory over Sacred Heart Friday afternoon in men's tennis on the campus of Yale University.

Chaudhry also teamed with Ricky Saad in doubles and the pair won their third consecutive match in helping the Wildcats improve to 2-3 on the season. The Pioneers remained winless at 0-5.

The match started off with Davidson earning 8-4 and 8-6 victories at No. 2 and 3 doubles to grab the doubles point. Chaudhry and Saad ran their record to 3-0 with the win at No. 3, while Artem Khrapko and David Hager improved to 3-1 at No. 2 with their second straight win.

J.B. Gough and Jordan Hart nearly gave the 'Cats the sweep in doubles, but fell 8-7 at No. 1.

The duo came back though in singles action, capturing wins at No. 3 and 5 position, and Davidson took five of the six positions overall. Gough took a 6-2, 6-4 decision to run his early 2015 record to 3-2, with all three wins coming at No. 3. Hart followed by scoring his first win of the campaign, taking a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Chaudhry easily won his fourth straight match at the top spot by wining in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. He was joined in the win column by Khrapko and Saad, who tallied victories at No. 2 and 4 singles. The freshman Khrapko saw his singles win streak run to three in a row with a 6-4, 6-4 decision, while Saad remained perfect at 2-0 by coming back from a 6-2 defeat in the first set to net 6-0, 6-3 wins in the next two sets.

Davidson now gears up for its first-ever Atlantic 10 match with a trip to Fordham on Saturday, with match time set for 4 p.m.
