NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — For the second week in a row, the Davidson women's tennis team claimed a weekly Atlantic 10 award, this time sweeping both of them, as Elaina Cummer was named the Performer of the Week and Anna Catharine Feaster was tabbed the Rookie of the Week for matches played from Feb. 3-10, announced the league office today.
A week ago, sophomore Jenna Brunner won Davidson's first-ever weekly award, taking home the Performer of the Week honor.
The duo helped Davidson to its second straight team victory, a 6-1 defeat of Wofford at home last Thursday. Junior Cummer teamed with Brunner for a third consecutive doubles win together, taking a 6-2 decision at No. 1 doubles. Then in singles action, the Plano, Texas, native picked up her first win of the season at the top position, winning a tiebreaker, 8-6, before finishing the second set off with a 6-3 win.
Feaster went 2-0 as well last week against Wofford. The Knoxville, Tenn., native pushed her doubles win streak to three straight, teaming with Ally Sexton to score a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles and help Davidson sweep the doubles point. She then followed by winning her second singles match in a row, cruising to an easy 6-2, 6-0 decision at No. 2 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Wildcats (2-1), in the midst of playing 10 of 11 matches at home to start the year, play a doubleheader this weekend, Feb. 14. They host Wingate at 10 a.m. and then finish out the day against Gardner-Webb at 2 p.m.
