Sargent Wins Country Club of North Carolina Amateur

PINEHURST, N.C. – David Sargent of the Davidson College golf team captured the 2015 Country Club of North Carolina Amateur title on Monday afternoon.
Sargent, a senior from nearby Cornelius, defeated UNC freshman Joshua Martin in a sudden-death playoff to become the first Wildcat to capture the title since Jackson Taylor.
After making eagle from 125 yards out on the Par 4 15th hole, Sargent drained a 15-foot birdie putt in the playoff to secure the win.
"This is definitely a great confidence builder to carry momentum into the spring season," said Sargent.
An Atlantic 10 all-conference selection a year ago, Sargent finished the 54-hole event at 211/-5 following rounds of 70-71-70.
During the fall, Sargent posted a 74.54 stroke average for the Wildcats.
Davidson will return to the course, Feb. 22-23, for its spring opener at the Atlantic 10 Match Play Championship in Weston, Fla.
