
Davidson Races to First-Place Finish at Royals XC Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Competing at the annual Royals Cross Country Challenge, the Davidson women's team claimed first place with 56 total points. Paced by Freshman Caroline Yarbrough, the Wildcats had three student-athletes finish in the top-15.
Davidson had a strong showing against a competitive field, beating the 12th-ranked team in the southeast region, Coastal Carolina and the College of Charleston. The Wildcats turned in an average time of 18:28.60.
"I could not be happier with our performance tonight," said Director of Cross Country and Track and Field, Jen Straub. "It was a great win for us all around. I continue to be impressed with our strength up front with Caroline and Allison. This was a great step as we prepare for the championship part of our schedule."
Yarbrough covered the 5K course in 17:43.6 to earn a third-place finish. The Greensboro, N.C., native has turned in Davidson's top performance at each of the four event this season.
Allison Cheeseman was the next Davidson runner to cross the line. The sophomore registered a time of 18:19.5 to rank eighth. Hayden Bates rounded out the top-15 finishes for the Wildcats, finishing the race in 18:40.1 to earn a 13-place finish.
Caroline Turner and Ashlyn Gruber took 21st and 23rd place, respectively. Turner registered a time of 18:48.4, while Gruber crossed in 18:51.4 to round out the scoring contingency for the Wildcats.
Brigid Behrens (18:52.7) and Sarah Sears (18:57.1) also turned in strong performances, earning top-30 finishes.
Davidson returns to the course Oct. 16 to compete at the Wake Forest Invitational.
