Davidson Continues Homestand with VCU Saturday

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson women's volleyball team will return home to Belk Arena this weekend to host VCU in Atlantic 10 play. The Wildcats and Rams will meet on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Wildcats posted a 3-1 victory over George Mason Oct. 2, before falling to George Washington in straight sets Oct. 4. Davidson currently sits at 7-10 overall and 2-2 in the Atlantic 10.
Freshman Mason Rooney registered her sixth double-double of the year to pace the Davidson offense. Rooney turned in 13 kills and 25 assists. Kelly Friers chipped in 11 kills, while Mikayla Derochie and Sabrina Shepherd added eight kills apiece in the win.
Against George Washington, Derochie and Ciera Cockrell paced the Wildcats with seven kills apiece.
Block Party
Davidson enters the weekend ranked fourth in the conference in blocks per set with an average of 2.50. Emily Franklin ranks sixth individually, with 1.07 blocks per set, while Sabrina Shepherd sits in seventh with 1.12 blocks per set.
Home Court Advantage
The Wildcats own a 4-1 record at home in 2015. Davidson posted a 3-0 record at the Wildcat Classic before taking down George Mason, 3-1, last weekend. Davidson suffered its first setback at home Oct. 4 against George Washington.
Rookie of the Rise
Freshman Sabrina Shepherd has made an immediate impact for Davidson. The Cave Spring, Ark., native currently leads the Wildcats with a .360 hitting percentage. Shepherd has also been a force at the net, averaging 1.12 blocks per set.
Can You Dig It?
Davidson enters the weekend ranked fifth in the A-10 in digs per set (14.2). Senior Morgan Shannon, the starting libero for the Wildcats is averaging 3.88 digs per set, which is good for fourth in the conference.
Up Next
Davidson will return to action Oct. 16 for a midweek matchup against North Carolina A&T. The match is set for 6 p.m. at Belk Arena.
