Davidson Drops Heartbreaker at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Junior Anne Federico scored Davidson's lone goal less than five minutes into the game, but Lock Haven's two first half goals held up, as the Bald Eagles captured a 2-1 victory, Sunday afternoon.

Davidson, suffering its first loss in Atlantic 10 play, falls to 3-1 in the conference and 6-5 overall, while Lock Haven improves to 11-2 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Lock Haven finished the contest with a 5-4 advantage in shots and a 6-4 edge in penalty corners.

Davidson was the stronger team out of the gate, getting on the board just 4:10 minutes into action. Off a penalty corner, Anna Davis fielded the insert and set up Melissa Funsten at the top of the circle. Funsten drilled a shot towards the cage where Federico redirected the shot to the near side for her first goal of the season.

Lock Haven responded less than 10 minutes later, when Tamia Roach slide one past Emily Leytham to even the score 1-1. Colleen McCabe was credited with the assist. The Bald Eagles took the lead when Alyscia Smith found the stick of McCabe who fired a shot far post to give Lock Haven a 2-1 advantage heading into intermission.

The second half progressed slowly as both sides failed to get things going offensively. Davidson had two penalty corners and two more shot attempts down the stretch, but shots on goal from Funsten and Katherine English were stopped by Lock Haven's Maddie Wagenfeld.

Davidson returns to action Oct. 9 as the Wildcats host A-10 rival Saint Louis.
