
Yarbrough Named A-10 Rookie of the Year; 'Cats Take Eighth

MECHANICSBURG, Va. – Caroline Yarbrough was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year as she paced Davidson to an eighth-place finish at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championships Saturday morning.
"I am extremely proud of the men and women today!" said Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Jen Straub. "We had some great performances and having four all-conference runners and a rookie of the year bode well for our future."
Yarbrough covered the 5K course in 17:20.9 to place third individually. The Greensboro, N.C., native set a new personal best by 23 seconds. The rookie also earned all-conference status following the race.
Allison Cheeseman was the next Davidson runner through the finishing chute, crossing the line in 18:07.4 to place 28th. Hayden Bates posted a time of 18:29.1 to finish 43rd.
The Wildcats did not have to wait long for their next finish as Sarah Sears raced to a 52nd place finish with a time of 18:38.2, while Caroline Turner wasn't far behind, claiming 53rd place in 18:32.4.
Senior captain Olivia Menden turned in Davidson's fifth scoring place, with a time of 18:49.0 to rank 65th, while Ashlyn Gruber registered a time of 18:53.7 to place 75th.
Richmond won their first A-10 title since 2010 with 87 points, finishing just ahead of two-time defending champion Duquesne. The Spiders had four competitors among the top 20 finishers. La Salle earned a third-place finish thanks to Morgan Szekely's won the individual title with a time of 17:09.4.
Davidson will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to compete at the 2015 NCAA Regional Meet Friday, Nov. 13. The meet, hosted by Virginia, will be held at Panorama Farms.
