Season Rewind
Davidson has competed in four meets this fall, finishing in the top-15 of each of those events. The Wildcats had its best performances close to home, taking first out of the 15-team field at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, after finishing first out of 10 teams at the Charlotte Invitational the week prior.
At the 2015 Commodore Classic, Caroline Yarbrough and Allison Cheeseman paced the Wildcats to an 11th place finish against a competitive field. Davidson opened the season up with a second-place finish at the Richmond Invitational.
Immediate Impact
Hailing from Greensboro, N.C., Caroline Yarbrough has experienced tremendous success in her first collegiate cross country season. Yarbrough has turned in the top performance for the Wildcats in each of their four events this season.
The rookie opened her season with a second place finish at the Richmond Invitational. Against a loaded field, Yarbrough placed 41st out of 244 runners at the Commodore Classic. Yarbrough registered her best finish of the season at the Charlotte Invitational, placing first out of 107 total runners. She continued the momentum into her final tune up before conference championships at the Royals Cross Country Challenge, where she placed third out of 324 runners.
Consistency Is Key
Davidson has benefited from consistency throughout the season. The Wildcats have gotten strong performances from a variety of student-athletes, which helped the team to four top-15 finishes.
Caroline Yarbrough and Allison Cheeseman turned into the top-two performances at all four meets. The trio of Sierra Ponthier, Sarah Sears and Hayden Bates registered top five finishes among team leaders in at least three meets. Caroline Turner and Ashlyn Gruber also finished in scoring position at the Charlotte Invitational and the Royals Cross Country Invitational, respectively.
Rookie on the Rise
Caroline Yarbrough has earned three weekly awards from the Atlantic 10 this season. After turning in a second-place finish to open the season at the Richmond Invitational, Yarbrough was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week. Following her first place finish at the Charlotte Invitational, Yarbrough earned the distinction again. Yarbrough placed third out of 324 runners at the Royals Cross Country Challenge to earn A-10 Performer of the Week.
Scouting the Field
The Atlantic 10 features three teams ranked in the Oct. 19 USTFCCA regional polls. In the Mid-Atlantic region, Duquesne sits in ninth, while George Washington is ranked 12th. In the Southeast region, Richmond is the 15th ranked team in the region.
A Look Back at 2014 A-10 Championship
Behind a cohesive effort, the Wildcats saw four of its five scorers place within the top-35 at the Atlantic Championship. Former standout Erin Osment raced to a ninth-place finish with a time of 18:03.8 to earn all-conference honors. Sarah Paddon was just 17 seconds behind crossing the line in 18:22.5 followed by current senior Olivia Menden, who covered the course in 18:44.1 to take 30thplace.
Current sophomore Sarah Sears took 33rd with a time of 18:49.8, while Hayden Bates finished in 19:01.4 to round out the scoring contingency for the Wildcats a season ago.
Duquesne is looking to bring home their third straight A-10 title, after previously winning the 2013 and 2014 championships. Also contending for this year's title is La Salle, which finished second last season. The Explorers are led by last year's individual champion and Rookie of the Year, Morgan Szekely.
Looking Ahead
Davidson will travel to Charlottesville, Va., to compete at the 2015 NCAA Regional Meet Friday, Nov. 13. The meet, hosted by Virginia, will be held at Panorama Farms.
