WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Davidson goalkeeper Emily Leytham made six saves and two Wildcats fired shots on goal, but it was not enough as the fifth-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons outlasted Davidson, 2-0, on Tuesday night.
Davidson's offense was slowed in the first half, as Wake Forest held possession for most of the initial frame, putting eight shots on goal. The Deacs also benefited from two penalty corners in the first 35 minutes. Megan Anderson put the Deacs on the board in the 28th minute. Kali Vicars was credited with the assist.
Davidson picked the intensity up early in the second half, as Lucy Pidcock launched a shot two minutes into the period. 10 minutes later, the Wildcats earned their first penalty corner of the game, which resulted in a shot from Katherine English.
Wake Forest responded with 13 shots and nine penalty corners in the second frame. The Deacs capped their scoring in the 66th minute when Krysta Wangerin deflected a shot past Leytham.
The Wildcats will conclude the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 31 at noon as they play host to A-10 rival Massachusetts. Davidson will honor its five graduating seniors prior to the game.
