PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Hannah Fisher found the back of the net midway through the opening frame, but it wasn't enough as Saint Joseph's registered two second-half goals to earn a 2-1 win over the Wildcats Saturday afternoon at Ryan Ellen Field.
Davidson falls to 8-8 overall and 5-2 in A-10 play, while Saint Joseph's picks up a key win in the conference standings to improve to 4-3 in the league and 7-8 overall.
Davidson earned a penalty corner in the 17th minute. After Fisher inserted the ball, the Wildcats knocked the ball around eventually finding the stick of Fisher, who fired a shot past Saint Joseph's Amelia Deibler for the score. Freshman Courtney Byler was credited with the assist.
Saint Joseph's evened the score in the 45th-minute off a penalty corner. Monica Tice fielded the ball from Emily Nonnemacher and sent a shot towards the cage. Anna Willcocks redirected the shot past Leytham for the equalizer.
The Hawks took the lead 14 minutes later, when Tori Popinko sent the ball across the front of the cage and Willcocks was there to send the ball into the back of the cage.
Saint Joseph's outshot Davidson, 10-7, and held the advantage in penalty corners, 7-5. Senior goalkeeper Emily Leytham turned away three shots.
Davidson will step out of conference play with a midweek contest at Wake Forest on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m.
