CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Sophomore Ava Todd of the Davidson women's tennis team had an impressive run at the USTA/ITA Carolinas Regional Championship held over the weekend at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of North Carolina.
Todd, along with fellow classmate Anna Catharine Feaster and freshman Gabrielle Centenari were there representing the Wildcats.
The sophomore Todd, who earned one of seven seeds in the qualifying singles draw, opened up the day with a comeback victory against Amy Ellis of UNCG. After falling in the first set, 6-4, Todd roared back to score 6-1 and 6-0 victories in the next two sets to earn the match win and reach the round of 16. She did not stop there, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 decision over her opponent from Elon to move into the quarterfinals.
With the pair of wins, Todd moved into the main singles draw where she faced Roka Sacko of Gardner-Webb Friday morning. She continued her winning with another three-set victory, taking a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 decison to move into the round of 32. The sophomores great weekend came to a halt there though as Todd fell the No. 2 seed Joana Eidukonyte of Clemson by the score of 6-0, 6-1.
Centenari saw her run in the qualifying singles draw end after her first match. The freshman dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Suzanne Zenoni of Elon.
Feaster played in the main singles draw and faced Samantha Asch of Wake Forest, where the sophomore fell to end her weekend early as well.
In doubles action, the pair of Todd and Feaster had a bye into the round of 32 where they faced a pair from Elon and picked up an 8-2 win. Their day ended though with an tie-breaker defeat, 7-4, to fall 8-7 against Appalachian State's doubles team.
Davidson plays one more event this Fall season, going to the Kitty Harrison Invitational, Nov. 6-8, held on the campus of UNC in Chapel HIll, N.C.
