CARY, N.C. — Four Wildcats competed over the weekend for the Davidson men's tennis team at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional held at the Cary Tennis Park.
David Hager, Jordan Hart, Shamael Chaudhry and J.B. Gough played both in the singles and doubles draws.
Of the four, Hager won his first round match in the main draw. He opened by going three sets and pulling out a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 over Jon Oneal of Campbell. The sophomore's run ended there though, as he dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision in the second round to 13th-seeded Nick Horton.
Gough earned a win on the consolation side for the 'Cats. After falling 6-0, 6-3 to his Coastal Carolina opponent in the main draw, the junior came back from falling 6-1 in his first set to net 6-4, 7-5 wins in the next two over Willem Himpe of ECU to earn a win in his first consolation match. The weekend ended when Gough fell 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to UNC Wilmington in the second round of the consolation side.
Davidson's doubles teams had a nice showing. Chaudhry and Hager won their first round match in the main draw by scoring a 13-11 tie-breaker win after splitting their first two sets, 2-6 and 6-1. The pair then fell in the second round to UNCW 6-3, 6-2.
The other team of Gough and Hart reached the second round of the consolation side. After falling in a tough 6-4, 2-6, (1-0)(5) match in the main draw, the duo tallied a 6-3, 6-0 victory in their first round consolation match.
