Davidson Powers Past Gardner-Webb 145-117

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Davidson men's swimming and diving team won 9 of the 14 events en route to a 145-117 victory Saturday afternoon at Gardner-Webb.
The team of Luke Burton, Spencer Gill, Cameron Bard and Brandon Kegley opened the meet up with a win in the 200 medley relay. The squad clocked a time of 1:33.11 to spark the momentum.
Burton, the reigning A-10 Swimmer of the Week, claimed two first place finishes in the 100 and 200 backstroke event, to set new pool records, which were previously held by former Davidson captain Geoff Peitz '11. The junior swam 50.30, two seconds faster than before the next swimmer in the first event, before touching the wall in 1:48.83 in the 200. Burton also helped Davidson to a first place finish in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay.
Clay Resweber collected two second places finishes in the 1,000 and 500 freestyle event. The freshman clocked a 9:49.21 and 4:47.72 respectively.
Kegley picked up a second place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:43.62. Cole Riggan was the next Wildcat to touch the wall with a time of 1:45.45.
Davidson went 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke. Spencer Gill led the way with a 57.98, while Grant Smith (58.54) and Taylor Willenbring (1:00.79) finished second and third respectively.
Riley League collected a first place finish in the 200 butterfly. League clocked 1:57.25, while Spencer Davies touched the wall in 1:59.16 to take third. Brad touched the wall in 21.79 in the 50 freestyle to take first place. Kegley swam 47.78 in the 100 freestyle, while Ari Snyder clocked a 48.64 to rank fourth in the event. Grant Smith swam to a first place finish in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:06.71. Spencer Gill followed with a 2:08.52 to take second place.
Davidson returns to action Feb. 18-21 for the Atlantic 10 Championships at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
