Distance Runners Highlight Day One of Hilton Garden Invite

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Davidson women's track and field team kicked off its two-day stay at the Hilton Garden Invitational Friday at the JDL FastTrack with strong showings in the distance events.
In the 5,000 meter run and the 3,000 meter run, each of the runners posted a new personal record.
In the 5,000 meter run, Davidson was led by Caroline Turner, who took 11th with a time of 18:24.14. Laurel Sheffield wasn't far behind, crossing the line in 18:55.12 to rank 13th, while Grace Falken (19:12.47) and Anna Buser (19:22.46) placed 19th and 21st respectively.
Erin Osment crossed the line in 9:58.38 to finish 10th in the 3,000 meter run, while Hannah Moerk ran 10:24.00 to take 22nd place. Ali Cobb (10:37.69) and Helen Webster (10:39.12) ranked 33rd and 35th place.
Brigid Behrens placed 13th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:17.34, followed by Hannah Rieden who took 15th overall with a time of 2:17.57.
Grace Watt finished the race in 2:21.15 to rank 25th and Sierra Ponthiers crossed the line in 2:22.09 to take 30th.
In the pole vault, senior Molly Marshall finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with a jump of 10-11.75, while freshman Stephanie Hautamaa (10-11.75) and Megan Comstack (10-06.00) took seventh and eighth respectively.
Davidson will return to the track tomorrow for day two of the Hilton Garden Invitational.
