DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson track and field junior Sarah Paddon will race among a competitive field at the 2015 Mellow Mushroom Mile at the JDL Fast Track Saturday, Jan. 31.
"It's going to be a fast crowd, but I couldn't be more excited to race and represent Davidson," said Paddon. "It's an amazing opportunity that I am very grateful to be given."
The field is comprised of 14 runners – six professional athletes and eight collegiate runners. Two-time Olympian Shannon Rowbury of Nike's Oregon Project, Olympian Morgan Uceny of Adidas, Heather Kampf of Asics/Team USA MN and Heidi See, Stephanie Garcia and Melissa Salerno of Furman Elite headline the field.
"We are very excited that Sarah has been invited to run the Mellow Mushroom Mile, which features not only some of the nation's top collegiate athletes but professionals as well," said Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jen Straub. "This is a great opportunity for Sarah to take her running career to the next level."
The Laguna Beach, Calif., product is seeded 12th in the field, with a time of 4:42. Paddon's personal record in the 1,500 meter run is 4:22, which converts to her seeded mile time. The facility record is 4:35.07, set last year by Brooks' Sara Vaughn.
In her first competition of the 2014-15 season, Paddon collected a first place finish. The junior crossed the line in 9:55.02 to claim first in the 3,000 meter run at the Johnson City Indoor Classic, Jan. 16-17.
"I would like to thank race director, Craig Longhurst, from the JDL Fast Track staff for putting together such an awesome meet and inviting Sarah to participate" added Straub.
